Singer-songwriter guitarist Nahko, rockin’ cajon and djembe-ist Hope Medford, flugle horn-ist
Max Ribner, and performance artist Bailey Scott make up the musical core of the traveling troubadour band Medicine for the People.
And Jason is the farmer that keeps them charged and inspired…
Jason tends the beautiful organic farm north of Hilo, Hawaii focusing on the cultivation of a grass called vetiver which is used to combat soil erosion due to its 12 foot long roots. They have sheep, chickens, and pigs on the way. Jason is a sort of honorary member of the band Medicine for the People whose dedication to this particular farm has provided a place for the band to come for rest, inspiration, and community. Here’s the farm’s website: www.VetiverFarmsHawaii.com
This was a great day I spent interviewing Nahko, Bailey, and Jason. This is part 3 in a series of videos. The first video is about “who” is Medicine for the People, the second is about “what” are they, and this video tells a little about “where” they are. As you will see in the video, the guys were endearing and authentic. I greatly appreciate their taking time to work with The Travel Creatives project, and see a great future with this band. They have clever, catchy music with a ton of heart. I’ll add a few other videos here that are not by me but will let you check out their music for yourself.
